Parker Butte & Lane (PBL) attorney Anaiah Krueger volunteered at AILA’s Refugee Adjustment Day on Saturday, October 11. Volunteer attorneys, paralegals, law students, and community members helped 26 refugee families from Africa, Iraq, and Nepal/Bhutan apply for lawful permanent resident status. Generous donations of new and gently used toys from PBL staff also helped send every child at the event home with three new toys. Anaiah spent much of the day assisting a family of ten from Somalia. The parents had each been living in a refugee camp in Ethiopia since 1991, when they were still children themselves, and 7 of their 8 children were born in the camp (the 8th is a proud U.S. citizen).
After decades of hardship, this family is finally able to embark on a better life with a bright future for their children!
